Baby's First Easter Basket

Of course I am SO excited to be filling Harper's first Easter basket... I live for this stuff! Although our little sweat pea can't enjoy pastel colored peanut M&Ms quite yet (mommy can!) I still want to give her a basket full of goodies to remember her first Easter. I thought I'd share the contents with you in case anyone is looking for any last minute basket fillers for your little chickies :)

The Velveteen Rabbit & The Tales of Peter Rabbit (classic bunny books!)
My First Easter Bib (found at Target)

We got her an adorable Easter Basket from Pottery Barn, with a pink & white striped liner that has her name on it. And before I fill it with all of her goodies, I have to put her inside of it for some pictures! I'm sure she will just love it & be extremely cooperative....
I can't wait to start lots of family traditions this year for all of the Holidays... these are the things that I have looked forward to my whole life. I saw on pinterest the other day the idea to put glow sticks inside plastic eggs for a glow in the dark Easter Egg hunt... genius!! I'd love to hear any fun Easter traditions or fun things you all do with your little ones!

The First Month: My Must Haves!

As promised, my list of things that we could not live without during the first month with our little munchkin! Keep in mind, this does not include the obvious necessities such as diapers, a pack n play, breastpump, etc. But, this is the list of my favorite things things that just make daily life a little bit easier! :)

Boppy - This is an absolute MUST for so many reasons! We used this within the first hours of Harper's life for positioning while breastfeeding. It helped tremendously since I had a c-section so I could rest her on the pillow instead of on my body. It is also great for sleeping in the hospital bed as well as snuggling the baby into for short naps or during play time.
Aden + Anais Swaddle Blankets - I know everyone raves about these, but they truly are the best. They are lightweight enough so you don't feel like you're overheating your baby and stretchy enough to swaddle them into the tightest, most impressive burrito you have ever seen. We also use it to throw over the carseat when we take her places to shield her from germs, sunlight & nosy people :) Pair that with the adorable patterns and you have yourself a winner!
Satsuma Baby Mittens - As I mentioned before, they are small enough for newborn hands & don't fall off. The last thing you want is your baby clawing at their face for baby pictures.
Lansinoh Soothies Gel Pads - If you are breastfeeding (or pumping) these will become your best friend. They are stupid expensive... but they are a TREAT... your nipples will thank you. Also, the Lanolin cream they make is a must as well. As mentioned before, works great as chapstick!
BabyGanics Hand Sanitizers - Love the small size bottles, the fact that they are organic & do not smell. We have a million of these all over the house & use them all the time. Plus they don't dry out your hands!
Boon Grass Drying Racks - Obsessed with these. I love the way they look on our countertop, so fun, but SO functional. Perfect for millions of breast pump & bottle parts that may not fit on other drying racks. I seriously LOVE these. And you can buy flower attachments that stick up out of the grass to hang nipples or membranes from pumps on. Have I mentioned that I love this product?
Johnson & Johnsons Hand & Face Wipes - Gentle on baby's skin & smell fantastic. A must-have for the diaper bag but also great to have lying around to use on pacifiers & your own hands. All of the others smell like alcohol or aren't soft enough, these will be my go-to wipe for any purpose.
Cocoa Butter Skin Treatment Oil - I know I said the smell of ordinary cocoa butter lotion makes me gag, but the oil doesn't have much of a scent. The oil is made for Scars & Stretch Marks (with Vitamin E!) and has already done a number on my c-section scar. I know others who have had amazing results with this product so I plan on slathering it all over my belly from here on out.
Naked Juices - Put a little in your baby's bottle, they will sleep through the night. KIDDING! :) This is for you. Busy life with a newborn leaves not much time for cooking (or eating) yet this is the time when you need your calories, nutrients & energy the most! These are packed with fruits & veggies, they are filling & they taste soooo good. They are my meals a lot of days.

Hope this is helpful to the first time & soon-to-be mommas out there! I hope these items will help you enjoy time with your bambinos just a little bit more.

And of course... an adorable picture of my little Harpsicle just for fun. Couldn't love her more!

Harper's First Holiday

You know I was excited for little Harpie's first holiday! We got her all decked out in green to celebrate St. Patrick's Day... all of the fun tuckered her right out! :)

Sorry for the lack of posts these days.. turns out having a newborn is pretty time consuming! We are currently dealing with what we think might be reflux. Our poor little girl spits up all the time & has lots of trouble sleeping. Therefore, mama doesn't get much sleep either. We are taking her to the doctor this week to hopefully get it all figured out. In the mean time, I hope to share my c-section details, hospital bag & post partum post with you all very soon. As well as my laundry list of "newborn must-haves" that I have been diligently taking notes on :) Happy Weekend to you all!!

3 Weeks of Harper

I can't believe our little Harpsicle is already three weeks old! We have been loving every minute of being parents. While it is tiring & demanding beyond belief, looking at her sweet face makes it all worth it. Here are a few snapshots from the last few days.

Harper loves being burped, she just chills out slumped over & wide eyed, just waiting for it. Her forehead wrinkles are my absolute favorite! She also loves lounging on daddy & staring at the windows when I open the blinds. Her other signature moves include sleeping with her legs straight up in the air, sneezing in sets of four & making loud, squeek sounds randomly throughout the day. I decided to try on a few different styles of baby carriers at the store & ultimately went with the K'Tan. It was so easy to put on myself & Harper actually loves being all cozied up in it! I plan on getting the ergo once she is a little bigger. A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for your advice & opinions on carriers!

Pardon my no makeup, no sleep, saggy baggy eyed face & wet hair. Motherhood sure looks good on me. Ha!

If I can leave you all with a few words of wisdom to the soon-to-be mommy readers out there... here it is:
  • If you are planning on breastfeeding, there is a chance that you will need to pump to supplement or exclusively pump if things don't work out. Stock up on some additional breast pump parts or every free minute of your life will be spent doing dishes.
  • Baby mittens! If your baby is like mine, they will have their hands in/around their mouth all the time. Their milky mouth will make those mittens disgusting in no time so you will want to switch them out often. I recommend these Satsuma mittens from Amazon... they are the only ones that don't fall off OR look like giant oven mits on tiny baby hands.
  • Have some newborn size jammies.. even if you don't take the tags off right away so you can return them if necessary. Everyone says don't buy them because the baby will grow out of them so quick or wont fit in them to begin with. Wrong. Harper was 7lbs 11oz and she is still swimming in a lot of her newborn size clothes. With spit up & diapers, you'll change their clothes often and the little white onesies will just not cut it in terms of keeping them warm. I never thought I'd say it, but the fleece Carter's footie jammies are all she wears... even if they do have ridiculous kittens & butterflies on them.
  • Buy a few different types of pacifiers (if you are going to use them). I initially thought we wouldn't but they are SO soothing for her. She has no nipple confusion so I have no issue with them while she is still young. I know, I'll probably kick myself in the ass later trying to wean her. But in the mean time, it will give you an additional 26 minutes of sleep when you need it most. We have Soothies, Gumdrop & Nuk brands. She likes the Soothie & Gumdrop the best, but they don't stay in her mouth. Nuk stays in but she doesn't like it as well. Still on the hunt for the perfect paci. Any suggestions? Also, hubby cleverly named them "The Silent Treatment". Hillarious.
  • Burping. It can be the answer to all your questions. Nobody told us this in the hospital & I really don't think it was stressed enough in the baby books. Burp them in between boobs. Burp them in between ounces. Burp them after they eat. When baby is squirmy, fussy or all around unhappy... burp them again! Who knew? :)
  • Get all the sleep you can before the baby comes! Nope. That doesn't work. Sleep doesn't work like a bank... you cannot stock up on it. You will not be able to borrow or dip into your savings. Bummer. But there is something about being a mama that will allow you to fully function on 5 sporadic hours of sleep per 24 hour period.

Recommend Your Baby Carrier!

Thank you all for the kind words about Harper's nursery... we love the way it turned out & I am so happy you all love it as well! I promise to update with where everything is from. Also, I am creating a Pinterest board containing all pictures from my blog for repinning. I was able to add a code to keep personal pictures from being pinned of my sweet baby girl.. but will do my best to make them available to everyone another way. Link to come soon!

In the mean time, I need your help! Baby girl is becoming much more awake during the day & I love to hold her and carry her around the house. I would love to get a baby carrier but can't decide which would be best. She is a tiny little thing, but I would love something that will grow with her. I have been debating between the Moby & the K'Tan.

The reviews that I have read are very positive for both, but it sounds like the K'Tan is a bit easier to put on by yourself. Or do you prefer the Baby Bjorn or Ergo? I have heard great things about those as well, but might not be as well suited for a newborn. Any advice or thoughts would be MUCH appreciated! :)
