14 Weeks

Happy Halloween!!!

How far along: 14 weeks
Gender: Will know very soon!! What's your guess?!
Weight gain: 1.5 lbs as of last week, at least 5 now after eating Halloween treats all week.
Maternity clothes: Maternity leggings as always, but otherwise none quite yet. Sporting my very favorite festive witch hat baseball tee in this pic!
Stretch marks: None yet, but already slathering on my Mustela cream!
Belly button in or out: In
Sleep: Good!
Best moment this week: Halloween, of course! Seeing Harper so happy & excited for all the fun things we got to do this week makes me so extra excited to have another baby in the family. I can't wait for Harp to have a little sibling to share all this fun with! :)
Worst moment this week: The dreaded tailbone & sciatic nerve pain has started kicking in, which means I now walk like I'm 90.
Miss anything: Would have loved to partake in the Halloween drinking festivities.
Movement: Still just a few flutters & rolls here and there.
Cravings: Food. Just can't stop eating, everything sounds good at this point & I am constantly getting stomach aches from eating too many random things at once. Breakfast burrito, Starburst, a peach & a bowl of cereal? Don't mind if I do.
Queasy or sick: Feeling good!
Looking forward to: Our next ultrasound & more movement! Can't wait for Brandon to feel kicks too!

It's Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus

Happy Halloween Eve!!

So many exciting things happening over here, getting our Halloween party set up ready, baking goodies & putting the finishing touches on our costumes while Harper is upstairs snoozing... "while visions of Sanderson sisters dance in her head."

Ladies & Gentleman. Ghouls & Boys. It's time for a little Hocus Pocus Drinking game action! Sadly, I cannot partake this year, but I hope that you will carry on without me! ;)

"ANOTHER GLORIOUS DRINKING GAME"
The Garvin Family Official Hocus Pocus Drinking Game

What you will need for this game: an excessive amount of beer & a witch hat

Take One Drink Every Time:
  • Winifred calls for her "Boooooook"
  • Mary smells a child
  • Sarah says something stupid
  • Dani cries or whines about something
  • Billy Butcherson loses a limb
  • Thackary Binx loses a life
  • The witches fly on their brooms... or mops or vacuum cleaner

Additional Rules:
The entire group must all drink a full beer during the "I Put a Spell on You" performance.

Anytime someone in the group starts to chug their beer, everyone must chime in saying "amok! amok! amok!" Last one to catch on has to take a drink.

If anyone says Zachary Binx instead of Thackary Binx, they are automatically beer bitch for the entire game.

"Damn, Damn, Double Damn" is the only curse word allowed during the game. If anyone says anything else, you have to take a drink.

First person to spot the Christmas Vacation house that is in the background during one scene of the movie gets to give three drinks. (Mind blown? I know, mine was too. Read more here.)

Anytime someone misquotes a line in the movie, they have to wear the witch hat until it gets passed to the next person. When the movie is over, the last person wearing the witch hat has to shotgun a beer & finish by saying "Makes me Sick!"

If you are watching this movie on VHS, you are a badass, but you also must chug a beer while you rewind the movie at the end. :)

I think it's safe to say that this might be Harper's reaction to me craving a beer so badly & watching Hocus Pocus empty handed this year. She knows there is a very good chance I will be up at the crack of dawn making her a festive breakfast instead of trying to sleep in with a witch of a hangover! ;)
Hope you all have the BEST Halloween tomorrow!!!

Halloween Fun & Party Planning

Happy Halloween Week!! Thank you all so much for the sweet comments on Harper's flamingo costume! It really was super easy to add a little flair to a simple store bought costume, definitely the route I will go from now on.
If baby number two is a girl (that is not a hint, we really don't know the sex yet), I've officially decided that we would have to go as the Sanderson sisters & Billy Butcherson next year. Right?! :)

Last week we had a little Halloween themed breakfast, complete with one of our favorites, Biscuits & "Grave-y." No mimosas this year, just a little pineapple orange juice instead, one of my new favorite drinks! I love doing at least one festive breakfast for each holiday, if nothing else, there's always fun shaped pancakes

And then there was pumpkin painting. I know, you're probably wondering "what on earth is she thinking letting a toddler paint a pumpkin in her kitchen?!" Well. It was like 30 degrees outside (which meant it was really like 31 degrees inside since our heat was still broken). And I already told her we were painting pumpkins, so I was determined to make it happen. I had my sweet friend Annie & her adorable daughters over, and with some snacks & coffee, we declared it a pumpkin painting party. I bought Crayola Washable Kids Paint, which actually turned out to be washable, threw a few pieces of cardboard on the floor from the garage & the kiddos went to town.

We thought it was so funny that all three girls started with the stems!

Trick or Treat Tee | Wire Basket | Spider Cupcake Holders from C&B last year

Harper actually did a good job getting her paintbrush in the paints & onto the pumpkin but overall was a hot mess. And she seriously had a BLAST. It was all fun & games until she painted the bottom of her foot, dropped her paintbrush & took off running.

Boo Dress | Headband

Thursday night we will take Harper trick-or-treating & have our Halloween party! Kids will be directed up the driveway & along the haunted path through the forest to get to our back patio where we will have our candy buffet set up. I'm going to use all of the glass canisters from around the house to fill with different types of candy, plus add a little popcorn & some cupcakes to the mix.
I have been stockpiling party supplies (paper goods ordered here) for weeks & was so excited to start putting things together! I have been obsessed with these sparkling clementine drinks lately & thought they would be a perfect non-alcoholic drink for the party. Of course, there will also be plenty of booze (and BOOs!) & a spooky party playlist for some background music! :)

Hope you all are having a fun & festive Halloween week!

Trick or Treat!

May we introduce you to Miss Harper, the flamingo.

We had the absolute best time tonight at a trick-or-treat event at our church, where Harper got to dress up, ooh-and-ahh at all the fun costumes & decorations, and best of all, fill up her little pumpkin bucket with goodies!

Let's talk about the costume. I really wanted to make her costume myself, but not only are there not enough hours in the day but I also can't sew. I had been thinking about a flamingo for weeks but wasn't sure how I'd pull it off. I ended up finding this flamingo costume at the Pottery Barn Kids Outlet (it was part of their Halloween collection from last year) on sale for only $12.
I liked it, but thought it needed a little sprucing up! ;)

So I used gold glitter puffy paint for the beak (the orange & yellow reminded me of a tucan), added some pink tulle in between the felt layers & cut up a pink boa for a little feathery flair! A hot glue gun was my weapon of choice.

The weather was absolutely beautiful & she actually loved her costume. She even let me paint her nails pink! She kept spinning in circles & barking like a dog because that's her favorite animal sound. Ever met a pink bird that says "arf, arf?!" :)

Plus, you know I got a little extra excited about Harper's costume matching her stroller.

We walked over to the church where we were greeted with lots of fun candy booths, festive music & tons of cuties in their costume. Harper also discovered her love for mini Tootsie Pops!
My heart is so full, I could not stop smiling listening to her say trick-or treat "chicky-chee!" to everyone. There is nothing like seeing holidays through a child's eyes! I live for nights like this.

Harper loved all the festivities & especially loved counting her loot on the walk home!

And, as exciting as Halloween week already is, we have some more exciting news to share with you!  4moms is hosting a Halloween Photo Contest where one lucky winner will get to light up the night with a 4moms Origami Stroller! All you have to do is submit a photo of your babe (or bump!) dressed up for Halloween on their Facebook page! :)

Good Luck & HAPPY HALLOWEEN WEEK!!!!

This post was in partnership with 4moms, however all opinions are my own.

Mama + Mini Cozy Style

It's no surprise that grey is my favorite color. I don't know why I love it so much but I always have, I think at least half of my closet is grey, black or white. And unless I am traveling for work, it is rare that I even leave the house in anything other than leggings or a comfy pair of jeans. I can be found at the grocery store in my pajamas any day of the week! ;)
I have been loving all of the cozy grey styles for both mama & mini this season, especially leggings, scarves & fur slippers! This totally speaks my style language.

One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven
Eight | Nine | Ten | Eleven | Twelve

We have had to work really hard to stay extra warm & cozy lately since our heat is still broken. It has been COLD here, like dipping down into the 30s at night, and not that I really need an excuse, but that has me living in leggings & camp socks. I've also gone back to the dark side, drinking hot coffee instead of iced most days! ;)

Of course, trying to keep the house warm also requires running the fireplace! I was nervous at first with Harper but she has done a good job staying back from it. And we only run it when we are in the room with her or she is in bed. Having the fireplace on also means making lots of s'mores! They are such a perfect snack because they are like the equivalent of a single serving cupcake or cookie but without all the work! Did you know that graham crackers now come in little short stack packages too so they don't go stale as quickly? Moms of toddlers, the things that excite us!

Hope you all are staying nice & warm!!
Festive Friday fun is just around the corner!

13 Weeks

Grey Shirt | Jeans

How far along: 13 weeks
Gender: The ultrasound tech predicted the baby's gender but it was a little early to be certain. We will find out later this month! :)
Weight gain: 1.5 lbs. although I feel like I gained 10.
Maternity clothes: Not yet, but guarantee I won't make it past Thanksgiving! Can someone pass the cinnamon butter? :)
Stretch marks: None yet, but already slathering on my Mustela cream!
Belly button in or out: In
Sleep: Good! Have been fighting a cold but otherwise sleeping great.
Best moment this week: Feeling a little movement already!! Every now & then I feel the baby wiggle, almost feels like a wiggling worm. I was so happy to feel it sooner this time around!
Worst moment this week: Being sick, I remember having lots of colds during my last pregnancy & am already catching them again this year. I have a feeling that flu season will not go easy on me.
Miss anything: I would give my left arm for a Bud Light Lime.
Movement: Just a tiny bit but I know for sure it is the baby, I even felt hiccups during my ultrasound!
Cravings: I got caught red handed last week with a two liter bottle of Strawberry Fanta wedged into the cupholder of my car. Judge me hard.
Queasy or sick: Feeling good!
Looking forward to: Our next ultrasound (as always) to confirm the gender for sure. Then onto names! :)

Office. Playroom. Guestroom.

Oh yes, it's all one room. I have loved this room so much since the day we  moved in, even more once I got to add a chalkboard wall. For the last few weeks, this room has also been housing a bunch of boxes, so I thought I'd wait to take pictures of it. Boxes of what, you may ask? :) Boxes that belong to my oldest brother & his wife... who are moving here TOMORROW. Yes! That means two of my four brothers will officially be Georgia residents & we couldn't be happier!!! We have lived away from family for almost five years so this is a huge blessing, especially for Harper.
Anyway, back to the playroom.

This is my little corner for working. And blogging. And doodling.

Of course this room isn't normally so clean, but it really just takes a minute to pick up since everything just gets thrown in baskets. For the most part, Harper likes to sit at her little desk that Brandon refinished (you can see the before picture here) & color. The little cubby in the bottom holds her coloring books, notebooks, crayons & stickers. Stickers. Why did I let her have stickers? She stuck them to the cat this morning.

We are still undecided about the little mini storage closets. We originally wanted to make them play areas for Harper but they are jam packed with stuff (baby bouncers, swing, boxes, etc.) so it doesn't seem like much of an option anymore. I actually find them to be really creepy so ideally if we don't use them, we will try to hide them.

This wall, which is where my desk used to be, is now going to have a pull out couch & will have a few fun canvases on the wall above it. You can see one there, which used to be in the bathroom & there are a few new ones on the way. I also got this giant metal G & think it should live up there as well.  On top of that, I am still on the hunt for a cute desk chair, a large rug & maybe some fun curtains.

I got these two baskets on sale at Target a while back, they hold all of Harper's toys. The little bookshelves are form Ikea & once we know baby #2's name, I am hoping to hang little monograms above each set of books.
Sorry for the poor lighting, this room sucks to take pictures of.

Hope you've enjoyed a peek into another room in the house! :)
As of right now, our heat is broken (so it's approximately 60 degrees inside), Harper has her first ear infection, I caught her cold & well, the cat may or may not still have a few Halloween stickers in her fur.
On the plus side, Hocus Pocus is on TV & we have a killer couch-bed-fort to watch it from.

Love List

1. Something about cool weather makes me want to try tons of new recipes & cook all sorts of goodies. Or maybe it's because I'm pregnant? Either way. These soft pretzel bites have caught my eye more than once so I am going to give them a go next weekend. I am also loving this apple nachos recipe for something to do with leftover Snickers bars from Halloween candy, genius!
Holiday Fall-iday snacks really are the best!

2. Halloween costumes, finally! We officially decided on our costumes, I have a little work to do but for the most part they are finished. Harper has two costumes, one for Halloween night & one for trunk-or-treat next weekend. So excited to dress Harper up (and ourselves!) & of course, see what all of your little ones will be dressed as!

3. You know we love our pancakes & waffles around here. I found this waffle dipper baking pan to easily make little waffle sticks, perfect for little fingers & fun for entertaining! This would also make the perfect gift for anyone with toddlers. Or anyone with a waffle obsession.

4. It's almost time to bust out the matching footies.

5. I am obsessed with all the new cozy hats, scarves & mittens from Target, the colors are so vibrant & are making me wish it might snow just a little here! ;)

6. Turkey & Touchdowns! We are having a huge family Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year, family traveling all the way here from Iowa & we are so so so excited!
The year I was pregnant with Harper, my parents were driving down to have Thanksgiving with us & hit a deer on the interstate in the middle of the night. They were almost halfway here, but it totaled their car so they had to stay in a hotel overnight, rent a car & drive home the next day. So they never made it here. We are hoping for a much better turnout this year!
I can't wait to have them here, and of course to start planning all the food & fun!!!

7. ABC Family 13 Nights of Halloween officially kicked off this weekend, you can find the lineup here! Hocus Pocus played over & over, just like the Garvin house! ;) I've also somehow never seen The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I am determined to catch it this year!

Happy Monday! Hope you all had an amazing weekend! :)

Our October

Hard to believe October is already halfway over. We have had so much fun this month (minus all the sick days!) & have lots of good stuff planned for the second half, including pumpkin painting, a chili cookoff & our annual Halloween brunch this weekend!

In early October, we picked up tons of pumpkins from our church to put around the house, spent some time downtown & found a very tasty new lunch spot, Mac the Cheese truck! :) The weather has been beautiful, windows open every day & crunchy leaves falling everywhere. I really love Georgia this time of year!
Boo Sweatshirt Dress | Glitter Headband | Grey Embellished Sweatshirt

Harper has been practicing her trick-or-treating with her new pumpkin bucket we got from the grocery store. She went bonkers when she spotted it, I don't think she could decide if it was a real pumpkin or a balloon. Her favorite thing to do is to fill it with leaves in the backyard (and then get pissed when I won't let her bring them all in the house).

Last weekend we made our way to the pumpkin patch & petting zoo, where we went on a hayrack ride, picked some pumpkins for carving, went through an entire bottle of hand sanitizer & got some tasty treats from the farm store. Harper was in pumpkin heaven!

We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary with two nights out in one week! We went to the FUN. concert at one of our favorite venues in Atlanta, it was amazing! Then over the weekend we went out to for dinner & drinks (dessert for me!).

We made this homemade tomato soup with sourdough grilled cheese for Soup Sunday, one of my favorites so far!
And we officially have some Halloween decor in the house... including some bat paper garlands, lots of pumpkins & a paper-mâché skeleton luminary that Harper hasn't been able to break. Win!

Hope you all have been having an amazing October so far!! I won't lie, I am already getting very excited for Thanksgiving & Christmas. Not sure if I am more excited for the food, the festivities or the decorations!
This really is the most wonderful time of the year!!! :)

12 Weeks

Here we go, round two!

 Striped Shirt | Jeans

How far along: 12 weeks
Gender: Will find out later this month & I can not wait!! So far, both of us are guessing that it's another girl! ;)
Weight gain: Will find out at next appointment on the 17th. Estimating by the number of Twix bars I have stolen from the Halloween candy basket, probably at least 12lbs. by now.
Maternity clothes: I've been living in my Gap Supersoft Maternity Leggings since my last pregnancy but otherwise no, not yet.
Stretch marks: Hoping for none again this round!
Belly button in or out: In
Sleep: Good! I was exhausted from weeks 6-10 but finally have my energy back & have been sleeping great at night.
Best moment this week: Anniversary dinner, which included a smorgasbord of amazing appetizers, followed by a queso burrito the size of my head. Just the way I like it.
Worst moment this week: Headaches. I either have a dull constant headache or an intense migraine. So over it.
Miss anything: Oh, other than all the beer in the world? I miss lunch meat terribly. I drool over deli sandwiches at the grocery store every week. I also miss my endurance, patience & appetite.
Movement: Nothing yet. I've heard you are more likely to feel movement sooner the second time around, so hoping for it soon!
Cravings: I haven't really had much of an appetite up until about a week ago, it is coming back slowly but surely. Strawberries, apples, toast, milk & everything chocolate are my favorites.
Queasy or sick: I have had a little nausea/carsick feeling for a few weeks but it has finally gone away. Brushing my teeth after every meal (and sometimes in between) really helped me feel better.
Looking forward to: Our next ultrasound later this week (where our tech will make an early guess at the gender) & hopefully feeling a little movement soon! :)
