I will be back very soon to share where everything is from. It's going to take me some time to find all the links to the shops but I promise I will share soon! :) I have a sweet little babe to tend to for now.

Harpers Birth Story

Here is the story of sweet Harper's arrival on February 15th, 2012.

We had a scheduled c-section because she was breech. Although I initially had hoped I would go into labor on my own, our doctors recommended that we schedule it so that it would not result in an emergency c-section. I actually began having some contractions on February 14th, but nothing strong enough or often enough to call the doctor. That night, my husband & I went out to dinner to celebrate Valentine's Day & the Eve of our baby's birthday. I could hardly eat my dinner because I was so nervous & excited for what was to come.

Wednesday morning, we arrived at the hospital at 5:30 am. All I could think about was how hungry I was & how badly I wanted some jelly toast. I was trying to keep my mind occupied. We got into our prep room, where the nurse hooked me up to my IV, which I was told was going to be the worst part. It was absolutely painless. My husband & I waited in there for a while alone waiting for me to finish the bag of fluids. Here we prayed & talked about how we couldn't believe the day was finally here.

The nursing staff was so sweet & kept telling me I was going to do great. I think I told everyone who walked in the door how incredibly nervous I was over and over again.  I had to sit on the edge of the bed with my feet on a chair, hunched over a pillow for them to administer my epidural. At this point, I lost it. I started sobbing because I was terrified, just a huge rush of emotions. The poor anesthesiologist definitely thought I was a lunatic - he hadn't even finished putting the tape on my back! They told me that I would feel a little sting & then some pressure. That's exactly what I felt. It didn't hurt at all.. It was sort of a scary feeling just knowing what was happening but no pain. As I sat there for a few minutes, both of my legs got warm & heavy. They had me cross my arms over my chest and lay back down. At this point I started shaking uncontrollably. My husband looked terrified as I lay there convulsing on the table, but again I didn't feel any pain, just couldn't shop shaking. The doctor was running late, so we had about 20 minutes to hang in the room while my epidural kicked in. My husband held my hand while we talked with the anesthesiologist & nurse for a while. At one point I remember saying "I am surprised I haven't said very many curse words today yet!" ...everyone burst out laughing as they informed me that I had definitely dropped a few. The mood in the room was very laid back, it helped me calm down & I was ready to go!

The doctor arrived & the nurses wheeled me into the OR. Such a surreal feeling. They asked Brandon to wait outside the room for just a few minutes while they prepped me. I hated that he couldn't come in right away, I was so nervous! They moved me from one bed to another, where I was sure they were going to just drop me to the floor. They threw up the curtain right below my chest & laid my arms out on either side of me on some supporting contraptions. Finally Brandon came back into the room and rushed over to sit by me. I was so scared that I was going to have a panic attack, Brandon did an amazing job chatting my ear off to keep me calm. He was so sweet & calming during the entire process, I never would have made it through this without him.

Then, before I even realized that they had even started, I heard the doctor say "we have a butt! we have ten toes!" I then felt immense pressure in my ribs, I remember telling Brandon that I thought they were breaking my ribs at that point. I could feel them pulling her out, it was painful but somehow amazing knowing what was happening at the same time. And then we heard the faintest little cry.  I burst into tears as the nurse said "Girl! 8:22 am! Congratulations!" The nurse grabbed our camera & told Brandon to come see her. He was yelling across the room to me "She is beautiful! Jess, wait til you see her!"

After what seemed like forever but was probably only a minute or two, Brandon brought our beautiful baby girl over to me. It was the most amazing moment of my entire life.

She wasn't crying anymore, she was so calm just staring at us. I couldn't believe this little, tiny baby just came out of my belly & I already loved so incredibly much.

I laid there holding her & rubbing her head, soaking up our first few moments as a family of three, while they stitched me up. I had never been happier in my entire life.

Harper's birth was the most incredible, wonderful experience that I ever could have imagined. I will never, ever forget those first precious moments of her life & I am so happy we got pictures to document it.

Happy One Week Birthday Harper!

Today is Little Baby Garvin's due date. And now we have a little one week old baby girl.

People aren't kidding when they say that time flies. I woke up today and said that I wish I could do it all over again! Harper's birth day was the best day of my life.. and while it gets better every day.. it's sad to think that the day we anticipated for so long is gone. Man, I am SUCH A SAP!

We have spent the last few days just staring at our little girl. All of her funny facial expressions & noises make us laugh. Since she was breech, she always has her legs in funny positions, hubby calls it the "strong leg" when we are trying to dress her and she puts her leg straight in the air and locks her knee. Exactly what would make me flinch when I was pregnant.

She loves to be swaddled up tight, likes a pacifier for just a few minutes to get her to sleep, loves to hold our fingers when she isn't wearing baby mittens & gives us a wicked mean mug when she wakes up from naps or gets her clothes changed.

It has been so much fun having my husband home from work for an entire week, I am so sad he has to go back tomorrow. When you have a baby, not only do you feel this overwhelming love for this new human being, but love for your husband like no other.

We have spent lots of time snuggling our little family of three & soaking up this amazing time together.

Thank you again for all of your great advice & sweet comments. I feel truly blessed to have so many followers & readers ready to offer so many kind words. And Harper's grey flower hat is from etsy, of course. It is the softest hat ever, I love it so much & have them in a few colors :) Here is the link to Zuzii.

One last thing, while I know that most of you have found my blog via PINTEREST, I am asking that everyone please refrain from posting any pictures of Harper to your pinboards. I know it is mostly for inspiration for picture ideas or things of that nature which is completely harmless, I'd like to do what I can to keep her pictures from randomly floating around the internet. I'd love to continue to post her pictures on my blog. Thank you all for your understanding! :)

Our Sweet Harpie Girl

Thank you all for the overwhelming amount of kind words & well wishes on Harper's birth! It has been amazing reading all of your comments.. especially in the wee hours of the night during feedings. The last few days have been so much more amazing than I ever could have imagined. I did end up having a c-section, which ended up being an incredible experience & was nothing like what I had built up in my mind. I can't wait to share the details.

Here are just a few pictures to share. I loved the countless hours of laying in bed with Harper on my chest like this in the hospital.

She is such a sweet, happy baby who loves to sleep.

One of our first pictures as a family of three.

I am excited to continue blogging, to share pictures of Harper's nursery, her birth story & all of the things I have learned along the way. My blog definitely seems now like the perfect place to share my thoughts... especially since my hormones are out of control these days!

Harper started fussing the other night while we were eating dinner. We put her in her swing for the first time, and her little eyes just lit up looking at the bird mobile hanging from it & hearing the music. My eyes filled with tears and all I could say was "she's so cute....she's soo cute..." over and over again as I started to sob. Then she got the hiccups. Which totally put me over the edge. I thought I was going to rip a stitch, I was crying so hard, just overwhelmed with how adorable she is and how I miss feeling her hiccups in my belly and how much I just love her to death. My husband sent me to time out on the couch so I could calm down :)

We are so blessed & thank God so much for this sweet little girl.

38 Weeks

How far along? 38 Weeks
Total weight gain: up 23 lbs. (lost a few pounds by my 38 week appointment.. so strange)
Maternity clothes? oh yea
Stretch marks? none yet!
Sleep: not terrible this week, I have been more tired than ever, so I'm sure that is why
Best moment this week: just soaking up every last bit of being pregnant ..laying around feeling her move & throwing back all the snacks I can get my hands on.

Miss Anything? so many things...but I know I will miss my baby belly more than all of them at this point!
Movement: oh yes she is active as ever! she's been doing this little movement with her foot ALL the time.. like tapping it on my left hip bone (similar to when a cat or dog scratches behind their ear with their back leg)... I am looking forward to seeing what exactly she is doing when she is on the outside :)
Food cravings: sweets (surprise!) this week's main menu consisted of brownies, oatmeal raisin cookies, lemon bars & apple slices dipped in cream cheese frosting.
Anything making you queasy or sick: meat
Gender: Girl

Labor Signs: Nope. A few braxton hicks lately..but otherwise I get the vibe that she is pretty cozy in there. The other morning while we were laying in bed...she was wiggling around SO much.. hubby suggests that she is packing her things and getting ready for her big debut. LET'S HOPE!
Symptoms: lots of pain in my stomach from where her head moves around plus wicked heartburn/acid reflux.
Belly Button in or out? out
Wedding rings on or off? on.. although not in this picture apparently.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy & EXCITED to say the least!
Looking forward to: D-Day! SO ready for her arrival!!!! :)

Pregnancy Must Haves

As my pregnancy is coming to an end.. I thought I would share with you all of my favorite things that have made the last 9 months a little easier on me. I will be honest, I feel like I have had a crazy easy pregnancy. Never any morning sickness, slept pretty great the entire time & felt like my old self most of the time... up until the last two weeks of course. The final weeks are a horse of a different color :)

Sparkling Water in Bottles - The perfect alternative to all of the other things you can't drink while pregnant! Coffee in the afternoon, wine with dinner or a beer on a Saturday afternoon.. but with no calories! These are great to have around when you're with a bunch of people drinking too.. you have your own bottle of something to drink & it sort of gives you the same type of taste in your mouth.
Humidifier - We used the Crane Drop Humidifer (love it!) in our bedroom for most of my pregnancy. I started having a dry/stuffy nose in the second trimester & it lingered forever. The humidifier helps so much, also great for your skin, makes a little white noise to help you sleep AND has a soft glow when it lights up so you can find your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Mustela Stretch Mark Cream - This stuff has saved my skin! I know they say it is very much hereditary whether or not you get stretch marks...so I knew I was probably bound to get some. My doctor said my skin has stretched well but my belly is LARGE these days and so far thanks to this stuff, no stretch marks. I have plenty of stretch marks elsewhere thanks to my freshman fifteen ;) And it smells good! I gag at the smell of cocoa butter.
Mustela Mustela Stretch Mark Double Action
Olay Makeup Cleansing Wipes - Love these for all the nights that I am way too tired to wash my face before bed. My nightly routine has to be under 60 seconds these days or I will fall asleep in the bathroom.
Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy - Loved this book because it is so light hearted & funny...but really gives you some great insight on what to expect. The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy can be found here.
Water Bottle or Tumbler - Sounds silly but here is my reasoning...  it is recommended that you drink seven bazillion cups of water each day while pregnant. If you have a water bottle or tumbler that you LOVE.. you will be so much more likely to keep filling it up rather than just using a glass. Also helps to have something with a lid that won't spill so you can tuck it in your bed or couch cushions for the days that you are huge & immobile. I would recommend the cute tumblers from Starbucks or a Camelback...both are the shit.
Whole Fruit Bars - Very specific on this one. These are only 70 calories, loaded with real fruit & cure a serious sweet tooth. A great alternative to ice cream...or in my case Strawberry Jelly. I have maybe eaten thirty boxes of these over the last 9 months. Bonus, they were rated Fitness Magazine's Best Healthy Desserts.

My other words of wisdom:
  • Get a body pillow sooner than later. Helps so much with hip & tailbone pain.. sounds silly when you could just use 2-3 other pillows between your legs or under your belly... for some reason a full body pillow just works better! I got one for $10 at Target. Also, splurge on a cute pillowcase :)
  • I have LOVED all maternity clothes from the Gap...their leggings are amazing (I will probably continue wearing them for life) plus all of their maternity tanks & long sleeved shirts are sooo soft & fit so great. I'm actually bummed that I wont get to wear some of them anymore.
  • Endlelsly roaming around malls DOES count as cardio.. my doctor just told me that I am burning many more calories walking in these final days carrying around all the extra weight. Hmmm.. ok works for me!
  • One last tip.. Do not, under any circumstances, open the Victoria's Secret 2012 Swimsuit Preview catalog when you are shoveling lemon bars in your mouth like someone is going to steal them from you. Ladies, it is in the mail, it might be in your mailbox right now. This is considered a pregnancy fail.
That's all I got...hope that was helpful! Back with my 38 week picture tomorrow!

PS. It is almost VALENTINE'S DAY! Which means baby girl's arrival is getting closer & closer.... :)

37 Weeks

How far along? 37 Weeks
Total weight gain: up 28 lbs.
Maternity clothes? oh yea
Stretch marks? none yet
Sleep: no bueno
Best moment this week: meeting with the doctor about our possible c-section, he made me feel SO much better about everything. I need to just remember that it is all in God's hands & continue to focus on the fact that baby G will be here in no time!!

Miss Anything? being comfortable!
Movement: lots of major movements & rearranging... I'm sure she is pretty darn cramped in there! Lately I can even feel her fingers & toes moving!
Food cravings: Still want fruit for every meal...other than that, not much of an appetite.
Anything making you queasy or sick: meat
Gender: Girl

Labor Signs: None. WTF.
Symptoms: Week 37 is when I officially hit a wall. Being uncomfortable has a whole new meaning... I have been tired again like the first trimester & my stomach is pretty painful..wondering if it has anything to do with her little head pushing through my stomach muscles. Also, my heartburn is back full force... especially after I eat chocolate.... esssspecialllllly after I eat chocolate cheesecake for breakfast. BUT, I know it is ALL WORTH IT! :)
Belly Button in or out? out
Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: baby girl's arrival of course ... can't believe it is almost time!!

It's FEBRUARY!

Sweet Baby Girl,
It's your birth month! I still remember writing "Estimated Arrival.. February 2012" on the chalkboard to surprise your daddy like it was yesterday. You'll be here in no time now, we can hardly wait. You've decided that you're very comfortable sitting in a funny, upright position rather than head down, turns out you like to do things your way. Sounds like you are just like your momma already!
Enjoy your last few weeks in my belly little girl! I think you are very excited for your new home though, you love to kick & wiggle lots whenever I am in your nursery or when daddy talks to you.We love you SO much already & can't wait to kiss your sweet face. And even if you don't arrive before Valentine's Day.. you're in luck... because we celebrate holidays all month long in this family! :)
Love, Momma
